Sunderland Safeguarding Children Board
Did you know that Sunderland has a Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB)?
The Board was established in October 2004 and its role is to co-ordinate all the work that is going on to make sure our children and young people are safe. This means:
- being safe from abuse and neglect
- not being injured or killed in accidents
- being safe from bullying and discrimination
- being safe from crime and anti-social behaviour
- living in secure and stable homes where they are cared for
Every local authority has to have a Local Safeguarding Children Board by law. The work in Sunderland is done through a board of multi agency senior staff, a Business Planning Group and four sub groups such as Communication and Workforce Development.

The Board has a temporary chair called Nonnie Crawford. Work is going on to get a chair who is Independant of all agencies, including the council.
