ENJOYING AND ACHIEVING

Priorities for enjoying and achieving

When the Children and Young People's Plan was being developed, we found out that there were some things stopping young people in Sunderland being happy and proud of themselves

  • not all young people go to school every day
  • not all young people do very well in their exams
  • not all young people have enough to do in their free time

To improve things the Children's Trust will

  • make sure young people go to school every day
  • help young people do well in their SATs and exams
  • make sure young people have places to go that are safe and have loads of good things to do

Every Schoolday Counts

Every Schoolday Counts helps children attend school every day. The project aims to ensure that every child who achieves good or improved attendance is rewarded. This includes Annual Celebration Events, free prize draws as well as credit, merit and distinction certificates to increase and acknowledge good attendance patterns. For further information related to school attendance please contact the Attendance Team, 'Every Schoolday Counts' between 8.30am - 5.15pm on:
Telephone: 0191 561 5601

Young Carer's Cardimage of young carers card
The 'Young Carer's Card' is a new scheme launched by Sunderland City Council to support young carers (of secondary school age) who are having problems at school because they are looking after someone at home. Young carers can carry the card with them at school and they can show the card to teachers when they are having problems.

The card is for young carers who are unable to or find it difficult to arrive at school on time, stay after school without earlier warning or finish homework on time, or need to carry a mobile phone (on silent) so they can keep in contact with the person they care for or leave early so they can collect young brothers or sisters.

The scheme is only available in secondary schools and you can find out more in the information leaflet here (PDF document 2.88mb)
